Things to Do Around Cwm Hafren

Whether you’re heading to your holiday home for a weekend or settling in for a slower-paced stay, one thing’s for sure: there’s never any shortage of things to do when you’re based at Cwm Hafren Holiday Park.

Nestled in the heart of Mid Wales, this peaceful little corner of the countryside is surrounded by rolling hills, ancient castles, charming market towns, and a surprising number of hidden gems. So, if you’re wondering how to spend your time here – beyond relaxing in your holiday home – we have plenty to tempt you with

For the Culture Lovers

Start with The Hafren in nearby Newtown – a small but mighty theatre and arts centre with a mix of live performances, touring comedy, music, and film nights. It’s the perfect way to spend an evening, especially if you fancy a little culture with your countryside.

And for a lesson in the local woollen industry, don’t miss the Textile Museum which looks at the process from fleece to flannel.

History fans, meanwhile, have their pick of incredible and iconic sites, such as Montgomery Castle, Gregynog Hall, and Powis Castle.

What’s On

Why not plan your next trip to your holiday home to line up with one of the region’s fantastic local festivals?

Early September, Newtown always comes alive with its annual Food Festival, offering everything from artisan cheeses and handmade bakes to street food and local brews.

Later in the month, Welshpool usually hosts its much-loved 1940s Weekend, where the whole town goes retro with vintage markets, period costumes, and live music.

And beer lovers, don’t miss Shropshire Oktoberfest in October. Held in Shrewsbury, it’s a true celebration of craft beer, great food, and all things gemütlich.

Explore the Great Outdoors

If you’re more ‘boots on’ than ‘feet up’, you’re in the right place: Glyndŵr’s Way and the Severn Way Walk offer miles of rural paths meandering through open moorland, farmland, and forest. Keen bikers should also check out Caersws Bike Park for some proper trail action.

Drive out to Lake Vyrnwy, Pistyll Rhaeadr Waterfall, or Llyn Clywedog Reservoir for tranquil views, birdwatching, and a good excuse to eat a picnic by the water. Or hop aboard the Cambrian Coast Railway for one of the UK’s most scenic train journeys – think sea views, sleepy villages, and photo-worthy stops.

For seasoned golfers or keen beginners, the nearby Lakeside Golf Course boasts stunning greens and fairways.

Or if you’re looking for something different, Falconry Experience Wales offers hands-on sessions with beautiful birds of prey. And tasting sessions at Welsh Mountain Cider combine orchard and craftsmanship to create some seriously tasty tipples.
