Introducing: Christmas in the Countryside

Whether you want a stroll through a winter wonderland or a memorable moment with Santa, the National Trust has been busy preparing.

Powis Castle and Garden are pulling out all the stops with magic round ever corner. A truly memorable experience for everyone, an Enchanted Christmas takes you from Newtown to Narnia. The medieval courtyard transforms into the mystical world from the wardrobe for the festive season, with illuminations, mulled wine and tales of Christmases past.

From 29 November to 14 December, eat breakfast with Father Christmas in the Bodley Stables bookshop for a buffet-style treat and magical memories you’re little ones will never forget.

At Gregynog Hall, you can explore the 750 acres of wintery Wales, filled with history, culture and stories of Christmas past. From Ghost Stories and Christmas concerts to festive workshops and afternoon tea, a day around the historic grounds is a must if you’re staying at Cwm Hafren for a sprinkle of Christmas.

Community Christmas, the Heart of Newtown

What’s Christmas without community? A Newtown Christmas knows nothing else, with the community coming together for festivities all season long. Cwm Hafren Park lives on the edge of town, so community spirit is welcoming you with open arms.

The Newtown Lights Switch On truly marks the start of Christmas with stalls, music and festive food for all of the family. So, note your calendar, Newtown Christmas is officially on.

Kicking off the yuletide season, the Newtown Santa Run returns, bigger and better than ever. Newtown’s high street is set to be taken over on 29 November by a dash of Santa’s, merry music and cheering crowds. Warm-up at 1:30pm and run at 2pm. The perfect way to immerse yourself in holiday joy, whether you want to run it or walk.

After some Christmas shopping? Newtown has plenty of local shops to find those heartfelt gifts and stocking fillers, from garden centres and bookstores to galleries and gift shops.

Family Festivities, for Everyone

If you’re looking for a family-friendly day for everyone to enjoy, from young ones experiencing magic for the first time to granny who loves tradition, a Newtown Christmas will not disappoint.

Saturday 29th November is also Small Business Saturday! Hafan yr Afon will be hosting a Christmas craft fair from 1pm to 4pm, plus the stalls inside Bear Lanes Shopping Centre and the Glanhafren Market Hall will be staying open for late-night shopping. Perfect for getting the whole family into the festive spirit!

“Oh no it isn’t. Oh yes, it is!” Theatres at Christmas are a magical place. Hafren theatre has an impressive program. Perfect for a girl’s night out with ‘A Merry Little Christmas with Only Men Aloud’, a matinee with the family with ‘Horrible Histories Christmas’, or a classic evening of ‘The Nutcracker’ and ‘That’ll be Christmas’.
